WGBH is committed to supporting teaching and learning throughout the Commonwealth. To that end, we will periodically send you announcements about educational programming and opportunities that we think would be of interest to you.

 

Today, we have an important update: This summer the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT is hosting 1-day workshops for middle and high school teachers and guidance counselors focusing on developing resilience and ethical leadership skills among youth. And the workshop fee, formerly $150 per person, has been reduced to $50.

The Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) offers the following free teacher workshops in partnership with SEEM Collaborative.

Location: All workshops held at Melrose Middle School, 360 Lynn Fells Parkway 

Stipend: Stipends of $150 for participants are available for those who complete the required assignments of the session. Stipends are limited to the first 20 participants in each session. A required follow-up session will be scheduled for the fall of 2015.

Teaching Disability and LGBTQ History Using Primary Sources Audience: Grade 5-12 Facilitators: Mike Kozuch, Director, Global Communities Program, Newton South Laurie Block, Disability History Museum Graham Warder, Keene State	Participants will work with primary sources, including Library of Congress resources, to gain content knowledge and specific sources to use on grade- specific topics surrounding both disability history and LGBTQ history. Teacher teams will develop primary source-based lessons. In the fall, teachers teach the lesson, reflect on it, and revise it based on student work.	Dates: July 20-21 8 AM-3 PM Location: MVMMS - Library 20 PDPs (Participants must complete and implement final product for full PDPs.)
Teaching Elementary Social Studies using Maps as Primary Sources Audience: Grade 2-6 Facilitator: Michelle LeBlanc, Director of Education, Norman B. Leventhal Map Center	Participants will work with primary sources, including Library of Congress resources, to gain content knowledge and specific sources to use on grade- specific topics surrounding the use of maps as a primary source at the elementary level. Teacher teams will develop primary source-based lessons. In the fall, teachers teach the lesson, reflect on it, and revise it based on student work.	Dates: July 20-21 8 AM-3 PM Location: MVMMS – 3rd Floor Project Room 20 PDPs (Participants must complete and implement final product for full PDPs.)
Teaching Elementary Social Studies: Colonial History and the American Revolution Audience: Grade 2-6 Facilitator: Laurie Risler, Westfield State University	Participants will work with primary sources, including Library of Congress resources, to gain content knowledge and specific sources to use on grade- specific topics surrounding topics covered by the elementary social studies curriculum. Teacher teams will develop primary source-based lessons. In the fall, teachers teach the lesson, reflect on it, and revise it based on student work.	Dates: August 17-18 8 AM-3 PM Location: MVMMS – Library 20 PDPs (Participants must complete and implement final product for full PDPs.)
