The Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) offers interdisciplinary courses, institutes, certificate programs, lectures, workshops and more designed to be flexible, affordable, and focused on the critical needs of today’s teachers, counselors, educators, and administrators.

Civics & Democracy I: Successes and Failures in Three Branches of American Government*
Friday, October 4, Evening Panel Discussion with US Congressional, Executive and Judicial Experts Saturday, October 5, Day-long Workshops
Explore social controversies past, present, and future with experts from the three branches of government. By examining the fundamental ideas at work in the institutions of the US government, you’ll have a chance to develop curriculum materials to meet Massachusetts civics standards.

Language of Poetry: Teach This Poem Institute* A Collaboration of Lesley University and Poets.org
Friday, October 25, Evening Poetry Readings Saturday, October 26, Day-long Workshops
Learn about the free online subscription of The Academy of American Poets Teach this Poem, which features a weekly poem with interdisciplinary resources and classroom activities. You’ll explore a pedagogy for teaching poetry and identify resources from the Library of Congress.

Integrated Arts Strategies for Inclusive Classrooms*
Friday, November 1, Evening Creative Arts Program Saturday, November 2, Day-long Workshops
Discover how arts integration across the curriculum transforms learning experiences for students of all abilities. Drawing upon Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI) you’ll engage in visual and performing arts strategies to consider the multiple ways students learn.

Introduction to Restorative Justice and Using Circles Effectively**
Friday, November 8, and Saturday, November 9, 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Available for 15 PDPs
Learn the fundamentals of restorative justice and build a range of strategies, including facilitating restorative circles. Circles are an
essential process for creating social support to address problems and respond to harm in a restorative way.

Civics & Democracy II: The Controversial Constitution: Fault Lines and Remedies*
Friday, November 15, Evening Book Talk with Cynthia & Sanford Levinson, authors of Fault Lines in the Constitution Saturday, November 16, Day-long Workshops
Explore the founding and continued impact of the U.S. Constitution on our lives. Working with content experts, you’ll examine the controversial content of the Constitution and develop hands-on learning strategies for engaging students using Massachusetts civics standards.

*Registration for the Institute is $150 for 10 PDPs or $650 for 1 Graduate Credit. **Registration for the two-day workshop is $200 for 15 PDPs.
